New Delhi: Six out of the eight candidates from the late Devi Lal clan were routed but the most ignominious defeat was that of former Haryana Deputy Chief Minister and JJP’s spearhead Dushyant Chautala, who was relegated to fifth position and lost.
One who got 92,504 votes in 2019, Dushyant, the great grandson of Devilal and grandson of Om Prakash Chautala, managed to get only 7,950 votes this time from Uchana Kalan, which is considered a stronghold of his family.
Congress’ Brijendra Singh, who came second in Uchana Kalan behind the BJP candidate, is the son of senior leader Birender Singh.
Dushyant’s brother Digvijay Singh Chautala and another Devi Lal grandson Amit Sihag of Congress lost to their cousin INLD’s Aditya Devilal in Dabwali. However, Aditya’s father Abhay Chautala was defeated by Congress’ Bharat Singh Beniwal by 15,000 votes in Ellenabad.
In Rania, another Devi Lal grandson Arjun Chautala defeated his uncle Ranjit Chautala. Devi Lal’s daughter-in-law Sunaina Chautala also lost in Fatehabad.
While the Devi Lal clan faced an electoral rout except for Aditya and Arjun, another Haryana veteran late Bhajan Lal’s grandson Bhavya Bishnoi, son of Kuldeep Bishnoi also bit the dust in their stronghold Adampur. Congress’ Chandra Prakash defeated him by 1,268 votes.
Congress General Secretary Randeep Surjewala’s son Aditya was another political dynast to begin his political innings with a victory from Kaithal, a seat which his grandfather Shamsher Singh Surjewala and father had earlier won. Incidentally, Aditya Surjewala is the youngest MLA in Haryana.
One of the prominent dynasts to win was Shruti Chowdhury from Tosham, who defeated her cousin Anirudh Chowdhury. Both are grandchildren of late Congress veteran Bansi Lal. Shruti and her mother Kiran Chowdhury, who was elected to Rajya Sabha recently, had recently left Congress to join the BJP.
Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh’s daughter Arti Singh Rao too won from Ateli in a close contest against BSP’s Attar Lal.
