Freedom fighter Tekur Subramanyam, who was the first Lok Sabha MP from Bellary constituency, had the rare distinction of being the Secretary of the Congress Parliamentary Party and also the Political Secretary to the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
Subramanyam, who had won the first three Lok Sabha polls from Bellary, had politely declined the then Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri’s request to join his ministry.
