Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was leading in the Barhait assembly constituency by a margin of 4,921 votes over BJP’s Gamliyel Hembrom.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was leading in the Barhait assembly constituency by a margin of 2,812 votes over BJP’s Gamliyel Hembrom.
In 2019, Soren contested two seats -- Barhait and Dumka -- and won both by a margin of 25,740 votes and 13,188 votes respectively.
Later, he vacated Dumka seat from where his brother Basant Soren got elected in the bypoll.
Soren had to resign as the CM shortly before his arrest on January 31 by the ED in a money laundering case.
He was released from jail on June 28 after being granted bail by the high court.
On July 3, he was elected as the JMM's legislature party leader.
Champai Soren subsequently submitted his resignation as the CM to the governor, paving the way for Hemant Soren to be sworn in as chief minister for a third time.
The BJP was leading in 39 of the 81 assembly seats in Jharkhand while the JMM was ahead in 38 as the counting of votes was underway on Saturday, according to reports of TV channels.
The counting of votes began at 8 AM.
The Election Commission, however, came out with trends showing that the I.N.D.I.A. Bloc leading in four seats, the BJP and an independent in one each till 9.26 AM.
On counting for Jharkhand Election 2024, Congress leader Rakesh Sinha says, "The results will come in our favour. People have shown their support, love and blessings to the candidates of 'Mahaghathbandhan'. The public in Jharkhand has said that they are not going to accept people like those who raise slogans like 'Batoge toh Katoge'...BJP used to claim in the Lok Sabha that they will get 400 seats. The situation is that the government is running on crutches. BJP will be reduced from 7-8 seats in Jharkhand. There will be no need for a resort. "They are the ones who did Hindu-Muslim, we highlighted corruption from top to bottom. Ahead of the counting of votes for Maharashtra Election 2024 and Jharkhand Election 2024, BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari says, "We are confident that as the counting progresses in Maharashtra and Jharkhand and results get stable, BJP-NDA's absolute majority government in both states.

The stage is set for the outcome of the "battle of ballots" on Saturday, as political leaders and parties anxiously await the results that will decide whether the BJP-led NDA or the JMM-led alliance will form the next government in Jharkhand.

The ruling JMM in Jharkhand wrote to the Election Commission on Friday night and demanded the suspension of internet services within 2 km radius of the counting centres, alleging that the BJP has deputed "highly qualified" electronic experts from other states.
The JMM also demanded a ban on electronic gadgets near the counting centres.
The counting of votes for the 81-member Jharkhand assembly is scheduled on Saturday across 24 centres in the state.
"We have come to know through reliable sources that the BJP has deputed highly qualified electronic experts from other states outside counting centres. This is a serious matter," JMM spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya claimed in the letter to the Election Commission.
Demanding a fair and transparent counting process, he said that Internet services should be suspended within a 2 km radius of the counting centres and announcements of results should be made after every round of counting through loudspeakers.
A day after Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren charged the BJP with "launching a whisper campaign to influence voters", he hit out at the saffron camp again on Tuesday, alleging that the opposition party in the state spent over Rs 500 crore in "malicious campaigns" against him.
Days after accusing the BJP of maligning his and Jharkhand's image through shadow campaigns, Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday charged the saffron party with launching a "whisper campaign" by spending over Rs 1 crore in each assembly constituency to influence voters.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday intensified his criticism of the JMM-led coalition, accusing it of "indulging in dacoity" by looting natural resources and central funds sent by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
