"The preparations are underway for the November 20 Assembly elections in Maharashtra. The voting will be held in a single phase on the day. Taking necessary precautions, the ECI has set up the EMMC to monitor the poll-related news broadcast on television news channels in the country," according to a press statement issued by the office of Maharashtra Chief Electoral Officer.

The ECI will monitor each and every news telecast on various TV news channels on the polling day and also on the day before the polling.

"If any noteworthy text, visuals regarding the news are detected in the news being telecast, the election system of the concerned district will take immediate notice of it. For this the state-level and district-level media monitoring and control rooms are working in Mumbai and the districts of the State. The district election officer and concerned system and the EMMC will keep a watch on the poll-related news telecast and will take immediate note of any news regarding important incidents, breach of the model code of conduct, law and order. The action report will be sent to the ECI by the concerned DEO and EMMC," the statement said.

Assembly Elections 2024 | The Maharashtra Assembly polls will take place against the backdrop of a fractured political landscape in the western state where the Shiv Sena and NCP will be going up against the Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar factions, even as the BJP and Congress try to make their mark. Meanwhile, in Jharkhand, the JMM faces a new challenge after Hemant Soren's recent arrest and Champai, a longstanding party member, joining the BJP. The Haryana election resulted in a shock loss for Congress, which was looking to galvanize on the Lok Sabha poll performance, while J&K also saw the grand old party eventually stepping away from the cabinet, with Omar Abdullah's JKNC forming government. It remains to be seen if the upcoming polls help BJP cement its position further or provide a fillip to I.N.D.I.A.
