The Bharatiya Janata Party-led ruling Maha Yuti is all set to return to power in Maharashtra after going past the majority mark against the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi in the race to the 15th Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.
With counting still on, the Mahayuti alliance is currently leading on 226 seats. At the time of writing this report, the saffron party is leading in 126 seats while the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena is leading in 56 and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP in over 39 seats.
Here are some key takeaways from the Maharashtra Assembly polls.
The BJP was the dominant force in all the five regions - Mumbai-Konkan, Western Maharashtra, North Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha.
Maha Yuti Rides on populist schemes like Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana. Mukhya Mantri Ladki Bahin Yojana magic seems to be working, say political observers referring to 6 per cent rise in voting among women.
PM Modi's pitch 'ek hai toh safe hai' worked in the party's favour against Congress’s attacks that it posed a threat to the Constitution and reservation. The Saffron camp stuck to its project of welding the social justice politics of “Mandal” with “Kamandal”.
Amidst rising tensions over Maratha OBC reservations in the western state, the BJP was finding itself in a quandary before the elections.
However, it appears that the BJP has managed to counter the impact of the Maratha reservation issue, as per the early trends, which has hit them hard in the Lok Sabha polls, particularly in Marathwada.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is leading in Kopri-Pachpakhadi while Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has won the Nagpur South West.

Assembly Elections 2024 | The Maharashtra Assembly polls will take place against the backdrop of a fractured political landscape in the western state where the Shiv Sena and NCP will be going up against the Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar factions, even as the BJP and Congress try to make their mark. Meanwhile, in Jharkhand, the JMM faces a new challenge after Hemant Soren's recent arrest and Champai, a longstanding party member, joining the BJP. The Haryana election resulted in a shock loss for Congress, which was looking to galvanize on the Lok Sabha poll performance, while J&K also saw the grand old party eventually stepping away from the cabinet, with Omar Abdullah's JKNC forming government. It remains to be seen if the upcoming polls help BJP cement its position further or provide a fillip to I.N.D.I.A.
