In an unusual strategy, releasing diamond dust into the atmosphere can help keeping the planet cooler, claims a new study which has been published in the Geophysical Research Letters journal.
A group of experts in climatology and Earth sciences conducted extensive research. The group of researchers worked on the study which focuses on creating 3D climate models which could help in exploring the impact of aerosols on the environment.
Seven substances were assessed during the research out of which sulphur dioxide and diamond dust were found to be the most effective solutions to reduce global warming.
According to the journal's study, the research of the study made some important discoveries:
1 - Effectiveness of diamond dust: The study suggested that diamond dust stays air borne longer without clumping together making it helpful in reducing heat. Diamond dust which is highly efficient for injection usage has the ability to reflect sunlight and heat much better compared to other aerosols.
2 - The research findings suggest that if approximately 5 million tons of man-made diamond dust is spread every year, then the temperatures could be reduced by 1.6 degrees Celsius within 45 years.
3 - Chemical inertness - Diamond dust is not chemically active and causes no harm to the environment. This quality of it makes it a better option to use regarding reducing heat due to global warming.
