The government on Saturday appointed Ajay Bhushan Pandey as Revenue Secretary after the current finance and revenue secretary Hasmukh Adhia superannuates on November 30.

Pandey, who at present is the CEO of Unique Identification Authority of India, will continue to hold additional charge of UIDAI until further orders, a government notification said late on Saturday evening.

Pandey is a 1984 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from Maharashtra cadre.

Earlier in the day, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced Adhia's retirement and also wrote a blog on his contributions to India's reforms under Prime Minister Narendra Modi government in the past four years.

Adhia was instrumental in getting the historic GST legislation implemented across the country and also a host of laws to unearth black money.

Adhia, a 1981-batch Gujarat cadre officer, moved to Delhi in November 2014 as a secretary in the Department of Financial Services after Modi became prime minister.

The government also appointed Girish Chandra Murmu, a 1985 batch Gujarat-cadre officer as an officer on special duty in the department of expenditure.

He will take over as expenditure secretary in January next year after incumbent Ajay Narayan Jha superannuates.
