A crowd (other than agitating groups) gathered at the Chief Minister Office (CMO) in Meghalaya’s Tura and pelted stones on July 24.

The incident took place when Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma was having discussions with agitating organisations based in Garo-Hills who are on a hunger strike for a winter capital in Tura.

Speaking about the incident, Meghalaya Director General of Police (DGP) LR Bishnoi on July 25 said that the attack was pre-planned, and the conspirators would not be spared.
He said, “The attack on CM's meeting with ACHIK leaders at CMO Tura on 24 July was pre-planned and conspirators would not be spared. 26 people have been identified and 22 persons have been arrested. Accused Richard Marak (TMC leader) was arrested by police for inciting violence on July 24 evening, 18 others were arrested. The persons or groups involved in creating violence have been identified and soon will be behind bars. Additional forces have been deployed to arrest the conspirators and monitor the law and order situation in the area.”
