CBI has summoned Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar to Shillong to in relation to the chit fund scam on Thursday. Kumar has been asked to appear before CBI on Saturday. The development comes at a time when the Central agency has set up a new team of 10 officials to probe the chit fund scam.
" We have summoned Kumar to appear before us in Shillong on February 9," a senior CBI official said.
He also said that Kumar is likely to be questioned about the chit fund scam.
Earlier CBI officials had alleged Kumar, who headed a Special Investigation Team(SIT) set up by the West Bengal government to probe the chit fund scam refused to hand over several key pieces of evidence to them (CBI) after it took over the case. The case was handed over to CBI by the Supreme Court in May 2014.
CBI further alleged that Kumar had handed over several key documents related to the Saradha chit fund scam to the main accused and destroyed evidence.
