The Centre has launched a new web portal to provide people free access to an online repository of Gandhian literature, philosophy, audios, videos and rare photographs of the Father of Nation.
This comes days ahead of two-year long celebrations, scheduled to kickstart nationwide and around the world from October 2, to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
The website http://gandhi.gov.in/, launched by President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday, contains a rich repository of Gandhian philosophy and thoughts.
The Gandhipedia, a unique feature of the website, offers people access to as many as 100 volumes of the collected works of Mahatma Gandhi. People can download books made available at Gandhipedia free of cost.
Besides the website, the President also unveiled a logo for the two-year-long commemoration of Gandhi's birth anniversary.
“Logo branding will be done in trains, metro rail, Air India aircraft, state roadways buses, government websites, e-mails, government stationery, calendar and diary, government advertisements and publicity material, digital signature etc.” the Union Culture ministry said after the launch.
The logo will also be used by public sector undertakings, subordinate or attached offices, autonomous bodies and other organisations under the Union ministries and departments, it said.
“The logo has been obtained through crowdsourcing. The designs of the logo with colour guide are available on the website (launched by the President),” it added.
The web portal is “participatory in nature,” the ministry said
“All the participating organisations will be able to upload their activities regarding commemoration on the website. Organizations and individuals can join the celebration and submit their Karyanjali through an easy upload process,” it said.
One of the inbuilt features of the website is that it can identify visitors from different geography and serve them “personalized information,” the ministry added
