A regular face in Congress' election campaign in Delhi, Punjabi pop singer Daler Mehndi on Friday made an appearance at a BJP dais where he joined the saffron party.

Mehndi, who sang the popular hit 'Bolo Ta Ra, Ra Ra', had joined Congress in 2013 ahead of Assembly elections and had composed a campaign song 'Nahi Rukegi Meri Dilli' (My Delhi will not stop).

He came to Delhi BJP office along with Sufi singer Hansraj Hans, party's North-West Delhi candidate, and was on the dais when all the candidates were introduced. Mehndi's daughter is married to a son of Hans.

Introducing Mehndi, Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari said, "when he came here with Hans, I asked him whether I can announce that he has joined the party. He replied, by coming here it is crystal clear."

Besides Mehndi, actor Sunny Deol also joined the BJP this week while BJP also announced the candidature of Hans after denying ticket to sitting MP Udit Raj.

Sections of the party are not very keen in highlighting Mehndi's joining as he was convicted in a human-trafficking case last year. He was sentenced with two years in jail and a fine of Rs 1,000 in a 15-year-old human-trafficking case but was released on bail immediately.
