A Delhi Court has granted bail to actor Deep Sidhu in connection with a case relating to violence in and around Red Fort on Republic Day.
However, he was arrested by the Delhi police crime branch in another case related to the incident.
Additional Sessions Judge Nilofer Abeeda Parveen allowed bail plea of Sandeep Singh Sidhu alias Deep Sidhu. The court directed him to furnish a bail bond of Rs 30,000 and two sureties of like amount.
The court noted the prosecution seeks to make an example out of the case of the accused-applicant, he being a popular public figure, such an endeavour however hazards a failure of justice as a result of compromised objectivity.
The specific allegations against him, however, cannot be lost sight of and nature of incriminating material cannot be disregarded at any cost. It would lie with the prosecution to establish the accusations by collecting cogent material and leading credible evidence in the course of trial, the court added.
The Punjabi actor was first arrested in February 9 following the incident on Republic Day during the tractors rally by the farmers taken out to demand repeal of three farm laws.
Farmers have been protesting at the different borders of the national capital since November 26 against the three newly enacted farm laws: Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
