A major fire broke out at a multi-storied building in Park Street area on Monday. However, no casualties have been reported so far and the occupants of the building have been safely evacuated, fire brigade officials said.

According to the details shared by fire brigade team, at around 11 am locals noticed light smoke coming out of the fifth floor of Apeejay House which houses more than 50 offices. Within 15 minutes flames were seen gushing out of the windows.

“There has been no loss of lives or injuries in the incident. The fire is under control. The reason for the fire, however, is yet to be ascertained,” Jag Mohan, Director General of West Bengal Fire Services told DH. Ten fire engines rushed to the spot and currently the fire is under control.

The incident has caused traffic congestion in the area.
