Defence Ministry is soon going to place orders for 15 more C-295 transport aircraft for maritime surveillance. The Defence Ministry is soon going to discuss and expected to clear the proposal moved by the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard.
Nine of those aircraft would be used by the Indian Navy to keep an eye on Chinese activities in Indian Ocean Region. Six other planes will be deployed to check on the suspicious activities from Pakistan side and thwart any possible 26/11 type of terror attacks.
India has already placed orders for 56 of these planes from Airbus Spain under which 40 would be built in India while 16 will come directly from Spain.
