Chaos prevailed in the Meitei-dominated Imphal Valley of Manipur on Thursday as members of Meira Paibis, the Meitei women vigilante group, tried to storm police stations demanding the unconditional release of five youths who were arrested recently.

A young boy and a girl hailing from different faith were travelling in a bike to Udupi after visiting Sirimane Falls when they were waylaid by a few people and were questioned for travelling together. The incident had reportedly taken place a month ago at Hosagadde near Agumbe in Thirthahalli.

Udupi SP Dr Arun K said that Kaup police have registered a case under IPC sections 143 147 341 505(2) 354 (D) read with 149, based on a complaint filed by the brother of the girl. Further action will be taken as per the law, he said.

The Prime Minister began his address by paying tributes to the women of the country and lauded how the women's reservation bill - Nari Shakti Abhiniyam - was passed in the Parliament. He further added, "Today, I congratulate all women of the country. Yesterday and the day before, we witnessed the making of a new history. It is our fortune that crores of people gave us the opportunity to create that history."

Delhi CM allows use of loudspeakers till midnight during Ramleela, Durga Puja

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has granted a special exemption for using loudspeakers till midnight during Ramleela and Durga Puja celebrations, the Delhi CMO said in a statement on Friday. Loudspeakers are allowed to be used in Delhi till 10 pm. The announcement comes a day after Kejriwal met a delegation of office bearers of the Luv Kush Ramleela Committee.

MDMA worth Rs 1.75 lakh seized: 2 held

The CCB sleuths arrested two persons for selling MDMA (Methylene dioxy methamphetamine) to the general public and students at K S Rao Road in Mangaluru and seized 35 gram MDMA worth Rs 1.75 lakh.

According to Commissioner of Police Anupam Agarwal, the arrested are  P S Abdul Azeez alias Azeez (31) from Tekkar in Uppinangady and Akshith Kumar (26) from Katipalla third Block. Acting on a tip off, the police conducted the raid and arrested the duo. The police have recovered MDMA, two mobile phones, Rs 600 cash, digital weighing scale from the arrested. The total value of the seized property is Rs 1.96 lakh. A case has been registered at Mangaluru North station.

The Commissioner said that the drive against drug menace will continue. Of the arrested, Azeez has three cases under NDPS Act at Uppinangady, Vittal and Urwa stations. He was released on bail 15 days ago and is involved in the sale of drugs once again.
