With the increase in the inflow of water to the Harangi reservoir, 15,000 cusecs of water was released into the river on Monday.
The maximum storage capacity of the reservoir is 2,859 feet and the water-level stood at 2,857.35 feet. The inflow of water was 13,570 cusecs. A total of 7.69 TMC water is stored in the reservoir, of which, only 6.94 TMC water will be available for use.
Irrigation Department Assistant Executive Engineer Dharmaraj said the inflow of water has increased drastically. "As a result, EDCL is releasing 450 cusecs of water to the canal for the farmers,” he added.
Ethukadu rivulet in Bethu is overflowing due to heavy rain. Cauvery is overflowing in low-lying areas of Palooru, Kottamudi, Bolibane, Hoddur and Balamuri. The water level in the Cauvery river at Bolibane has increased drastically.
Haradoor rivulet is swollen in Suntikoppa. Electricity poles have been uprooted at Bettageri, Panya, Kenchati, Hattihole and Adagodu.
The compound wall of a house collapsed at Gandhi Nagara in Alekatte road of Chowdlu GP. The paddy fields have been inundated and this has affected farming activities.
