A Jain inscription, dating back to the 16th century, was discovered at Kunagalli village in Chamarajanagar taluk recently. The inscription was found on a field belonging to Mahadevamma. S D Kumaraswamy, under the guidance of K Prabhu, assistant professor of Ancient History and Archaeology, UoM, was studying inscriptions of Kollegal taluk when the inscription was discovered. The inscription has been issued during the rule of Chikkadevaraja Wadiyar of Mysore of the Yadu dynasty in 1678. It states that the Maharaja donated the village named Arikere, under Sattegala hobli, to Bommarasa Pandits. The inscription has 24 lines written in Kannada and Devanagari script.
