The supply of drinking water to Udupi town is likely resume in a day or two, City Municipal Commissioner Anand Kallolikar said.

The commissioner told DH that three pump sets, mounted on boats, were pumping water from small ponds created in the river to the main pond. Two pump sets were operating in the morning and the third pump set was used in the evening, he added.

“The authorities after analysing the water-level at Baje dam will take a decision on supplying water to the people on Wednesday. If the water is sufficient to lift, then water supply will resume from Wednesday itself. If the water impounded is insufficient, then the residents will have to wait for another day,” he said.

The water level at Baje reservoir should be above 1.7 metres in order to lift water. He said that Malpe region was supposed to receive water on Sunday.

Water supply to Malpe

Due to the non-availability of water, the supply was stopped. Once the water reaches the needed level, CMC will supply water to Malpe on a rotation basis, he added.
