In the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has said that it had been decided to go for three-phase treatment of the water supplied under KC valley project.

"The state government made honest efforts for the vacation of the Supreme Court stay on the project. The apex court vacated the stay recently. We are now discussing with experts about three-phase treatment of the water under KC valley project," Kumaraswamy said. He was addressing a Congress-JD(S) coalition election meet here on Saturday.

There had been widespread concerns about the quality of water supplied under the project to the parched Kolar district.

Calling upon voters not to believe propaganda on loan waiver scheme in Karnataka, the chief minister said that the BJP had been misleading people on the issue. He claimed that loans had been waived as declared the budget. "The government has formulated a project for supplying water to Kolar under Mekedatu project. The work will be completed in two years," he said.

He said that coaliation candidates should win the Lok Sabha election for the smooth functioning of the Congress-JD(S) government in the state and called upon workers of both the parites to set-aside their differences and work together.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president Dinesh Gundu Rao launched a tirade against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing the latter a "great liar." He accused both Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah of operating a "political mafia" and "abusing authority."

Dinesh said that unable to face Opposition parties, the BJP had been getting raids conducted on the residences of Congress and JD(S) leaders. He said the BJP, which had been using Army for its politics, had no moral right to seek votes from the people.

Former chief minister Siddaramaiah said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not a "chowkidar" but was a "partner in corruption."

"All the corrupt in BJP are chowkidars. Former chief minister Yeddyurappa, former ministers Janardhan Reddy, R Asoka, Katta Subramanya Naidu are all chowkidars. Should the people vote for them, who had been to jail," Siddaramaiah sought to know.
