Five people from Belagavi were killed on the spot after a car in which they were travelling fell into a 50-foot-deep gorge near Tillari Ghat close to Lashkar Point in Chandgadh taluk in Kolhapur district in Maharashtra on Sunday.

The deceased are Pankaj Killekar of Shivaji Nagar, Yallappa Patil (Boknur), Nitin Redekar (Balekundri), Krishan and Nagendra Babu Gavade (Ashte), said the Chandgadh police. The cause for the accident is yet to be ascertained. The police suspected that driver failed to see the road due to dense fog leading to the accident. The Ghat attracts large number of tourists especially during the monsoon.
