Udupi Deputy Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati said on Tuesday that a district-level advisory cell will be formed to look into the issues faced by female commercial sex workers (CSW).

The deputy commissioner, who addressed the gathering at a meeting held her office, felt the need to rehabilitate and improve the living conditions of CSWs.

“Help from NGOs will be sought to trace the CSWs in the district. The sex workers also can approach the Women and Child Development Department district unit and furnish details,” the officer added.

She also directed officials to seek help of social workers and students during their census of sex workers in the district. Emphasising on bringing CSWs to the mainstream of the society, Koralpati said stakeholders in the society should join hands with the government.

“As many as 32 CSWs had availed of the benefits from the government since 2015. Six CSWs had been identified in this fiscal and they will be receiving benefits soon,” she added.
