Bank officials who harass farmers for repayment of loan, will be sent to jail, warned Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.

He spoke to the media after visiting drought-hit toor dal farms at Chowdapur in Afzalpur taluk on Monday.

Farmer Madiwalappa told the CM that officials of the Pragati Krishna Grameen bank (Revoor branch) were harassing him for loan repayment. 'When will the farm loan be waived?" he asked Kumaraswamy.

Asking the farmer not worry, Kumaraswamy said in one week's time, all problems would be solved. "Bank officials have been warned against harassing farmers," he said. A bank official in Vijayapura was jailed for harassing farmers, he pointed out.

Though the government has issued an official notification on crop loan waiver, bank officials were still harassing farmers for loan repayment, he observed.

Kumaraswamy asked district in-charge minister Priyank Kharge to warn officials.
