The Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) appears to be regaining its reputation and popularity as a large number of students are coming forward to pursue education in the university.
The two-year BEd course, offered by the KSOU, is in great demand with the university receiving more than 6,000 applications for the available 500 seats, for the January cycle.
The universityhad received 9,767 applications from candidates. But only 6,344 students have paid the fees and have completed the process. The last date for submitting the applications was February 3.
It may be recalled that the University Grants Commission had withdrawn the KSOU’s recognition for the courses from 2012-13 academic year, in June 2015, following violation of norms.
The students had lost all hopes on the university, which managed to get recognition in 2017.
KSOU Vice-chancellor D Shivalingaiah said the university is getting good response again. “It is on the revival mode. Not only BEd, even for MBA, 1,065 candidates have applied,” he said.
The huge number of applications received for BEd course is a new hope for the university. According to the authorities, BEd courses in regular colleges are not in demand. The colleges receive applications lesser than the available seats.
Shalva Pille Iyengar, director, admissions, KSOU, “KSOU has 10 centers across the state. A majority of the applicants are from Mysuru, Bengaluru and Dharwad centres. Owing to flexibility, fee structure and availability of centres in various parts of the state, the courses offered by KSOU are in good demand. The university has adopted online system for admission process and the candidates can get their hall-ticket for entrance examination from anywhere”.
The entrance test to select the candidates will be held
on February 10, between 11 am and 1 pm, at different colleges, across the state. The merit list will be published on February 18.
While the counselling for candidates under General Merit is scheduled for
February 22, the counselling for SC/ST candidates will be held on February 25. Similarly, the counselling for candidates belonging to category-I, category-II A, category-II B, category-III A and category-III B, is scheduled for February 27.
The counselling for all candidates will be held at Mukthagangotri, KSOU’s main campus on Mysuru-Hunsur Road. The last date for admission is February 28, according to the notification.
