Infosys Foundation chairperson Sudha Murty said, like there is a woman behind every successful man, there is an understanding man behind every successful woman.

She was replying to a question on family support to women achievers and the limitations, during an interaction organised by Mysuru Literary Forum Charitable Trust and Mysuru Book Clubs - 2015, here, on Friday. “Fortunately for me, there were elders at home to take care of my children. My husband was supportive and we had funds at our disposal. Otherwise, it is difficult for women to strive for social causes. However, it is not impossible. Each person can do his or her mite for the welfare of the society, within one’s limitations,” she said.

Sudha Murty said, “When I see people in difficulty, I feel I owe them something. It is difficult to define the term ‘sufficient’. It is a subjective issue. One has to draw the line on his or her own. When one feels one has sufficient, one should start sharing. Overflowing is a natural process. Excess wealth destroys families.” She listed out our education system, our health mechanism and lack of pride for the nation as the three major problems. “Our education is stuck in the Lord Macaulay age. We need to incorporate communication languages and skills in our education. In the health sector, we are yet to take preventive measures. We are yet to realise that if we keep our waters and air clean, we can be a healthy society. We should be proud of our land and language,” she said.
