An armed gang robbed a 29-year-old software engineer of his valuables on the pretext of giving him a drop in a car by driving him around the city for over two hours on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.

The victim Anil Togaru, a resident of Munekolala, was later dumped at Electronic City bus stop around 4.30 am, the police said.

The incident happened when Togaru, who finished his shift at around 1.30 am, was waiting for transport at Ecospace bus stop in Bellandur to return home. A cab, with three passengers, arrived, and the driver offered to drop him. Togaru got into the cab and the driver began to drive. When the driver started taking a detour at Kadubeesanahalli, Togaru demanded that he stop the car, the police said.

Soon, the three passengers turned violent and one of them put the dagger to Togaru’s neck, asking him to part with his gold chain and ring.

The two others searched for his valuables and picked up the wallet which contained cash and two ATM cards. They later instructed the driver to take the cab to Jigani and stopped at an isolated ATM where Togaru was forced to withdraw cash. The robbers then forced Togaru again into the cab and took him to another ATM at Electronic City where he was forced to withdraw cash there too. After confirming that Togaru had no valuables left, the robbers dropped him at a bus stop and sped away. Togaru filed a complaint with the Marathahalli police on Saturday.
