Woman refuses to jump signal, gets rape threat

A biker hurled abuses at a woman and threatened to rape her for not jumping a signal.

The Tilaknagar police arrested the businessman Chandrashekar (42), who resides in Katriguppe, based on a complaint by the 26-year-old woman photographer.

The woman said, in her complaint, that she was on her way to Bannerghatta after visiting a relative on Saturday. A man was passing her car in Tilaknagar as she stopped at the Bilal mosque signal that turned red.

Chandrashekar, who parked behind her, honked and asked her to move further. He began abusing her when she did not respond.

The woman said that Chandrashekar compelled her to jump the signal, but she refused. He then chased her down and threatened to rape her. When the woman got down from her car and took pictures of him and told him she would approach the police, he fled the scene.

The Tilaknagar police arrested Chandrashekar, who told them that the woman abused him and he was forced to use the word 'rape'. He was produced before the magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.

Victim backs out

Meanwhile, the police said the woman approached them after Chandrashekar's arrest and told them she wanted to withdraw the complaint. They then asked her to appear before the court to pursue the withdrawal process.
