A couple in their thirties were found dead under mysterious circumstances in their flat in Pattanagere in Rajarajeshwarinagar on Tuesday.

Mahesh H (35) and Sheela (31) were lying naked in their bathrooms with the door partially open. MP Shivalingappa, the RWA President at Shivaganga Dwarakamai apartments, discovered the bodies as he opened the grilled-gate and front door. The couple resided in one of the ground floor apartments in the building located in Srinivasapura road.

Police suspect the couple could have been asphyxiated to death inhaling carbon-monoxide leaking from the gas geyser in their common bathroom. Their three-bedroom flat has a common bathroom and one attached to a bedroom.

Mahesh, a chip designer with AMD in Whitefield, had opted to work from home on Tuesday. Sheela was a homemaker and the couple hailed from Athani in Belagavi district. They bought the flat recently.

Police found Mahesh’s laptop on and water gushing from the tap in the bathroom where the couple was found. The television and lights in their three-year-old daughter’s study room were also on.

Shivalingappa, who lodged the police complaint, claimed that the couple could have been electrocuted due to short-circuit or could have inhaled carbon-monoxide leaking from the geyser.

“However, police should investigate the cause of death,” he said in his complaint.

Shivalingappa had turned off the gas cylinder kept on the balcony. FSL experts have collected samples from the flat, including the gas geyser to ascertain the cause of death.

“We are awaiting postmortem and FSL reports to determine the cause of death. Neighbours and witnesses suspect it to be asphyxiation due to carbon-monoxide inhalation leaked from the gas geyser,” said Ravi Channannavar, DCP West Division.

Sagar, Mahesh’s colleague, described him as a fun loving person who enjoyed the company of friends and family. “He appeared normal and did not look depressed,” Sagar said.
