One of the many advantages of residing in the CBD (central business district) of the city is the food. Likewise, in Richmond Road, amid traffic, one can spot Cafe Mor’ish, a quiet place in the corner that resembles a European bistro.

The owners’ idea is to bring in some Lebanese cuisine while at the same time curating dishes that connect with the locals in the area.

We began our meal with a ‘Cutlet Mother Mori’, grilled chicken blended with potatoes and a strong hint of spices. If you love spicy food, you can go for the non-veg platter, which has crispy fried chicken, minced lamb kebab and grilled fish with herbs. The platter has a burst of flavour and variety.

The cafe also offers ‘soup of the day’. With a lot of greens, zucchini and pepper, the ‘Veg Clear Soup’ is light and healthy and is served with fresh in-house garlic bread.

The dishes here have local names, in an attempt to connect with the patrons, and it works.

Fascinated by the ‘Johnson Market Club’, we decided to order it right away. It’s a layered sandwich with vegetables, guacamole and cheese on top. Along with that was a juicy grilled chicken fillet with cajun seasoning. With the tomatoes adding a tang and the cheese toning down the spices in the chicken, the taste was balanced quite perfectly.

The flavours in the cutlet and sandwich have a sense of familiarity with the food unique to the area, and the strong hints of ‘garam masala’ along with the herbs resemble the
cosmopolitan culture of the space.

Moving onto the dessert, ‘Fudge Brownie’, a piece of warm brownie topped with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream, is simply divine. The brownie is moist, well-baked and not too sweet. The sweetness comes from the ice-cream, which is another balancing act.

If you are a person who loves having different flavours on your plate, fret not, the cafe also has pizzas and grilled food. Summing up, it is a good place to have a quick bite, with generous servings.

This quaint cafe is ideal to go on a date or have a quiet evening by yourself.

Cafe Mor’ish is located in Le Parc Richmonde Building, Shanthala Nagar, Richmond Road.
