Depressed over his missing son, an assistant sub-inspector of police tragically ended his life by hanging himself at the Armed Reserve quarters in Adugodi on Saturday night.
In his suicide note, Dayananda Sagar (58), a resident of Jayanagar who worked with the City Armed Reserve (CAR)-Central, said he was ending his life since he could not trace his son even four months after he went missing.
According to a senior police official, Dayananda's older son Ganesh (29) piled up huge debts and left home four months ago, after the coffee shop he ran in Jayanagar incurred heavy losses. Dayananda and his wife waited for Ganesh to return in vain. They then gave a missing complaint and launched a manhunt to trace him, but without much luck.
Dayananda was deployed on Saturday near the residence of JD(S) leader H D Deve Gowda. Clocking out of his shift at 9 pm, the ASI returned to the CAR office and hung himself from the ceiling. His younger son Kiran Sagar called his mobile, but did not get a response.
Kiran then rushed to CAR and noticed his father's bike parked outside. As he went in, he found the hanging body of Dayananda.
Dayananda mentioned in his death note that he could not find the strength to live without his son. Despite the search everywhere, he could not be found.
"Unable to bear the pain, I have decided to end my life. Please forgive me," the ASI said in the note.
Dayananda's body was taken to the Victoria Hospital for post-mortem. His family's statement was also recorded. The Adugodi police have filed a case of unnatural death and are probing the incident.
