A citizens’ charter of demands on the monthly ward committee meetings, prepared after a spirited and interactive event organised by DH and PV on February 16, has been submitted to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for further action.
The charter was handed over to Mayor Gangambike Mallikarjun and BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad recently. Both of them have responded to a range of questions posed by the citizens during the DH and PV Citizens for Civic Amenities event held in February.
DH will now track the progress of the promises and follow-up action over the next few months, acting as a robust bridge between the citizens and the city administration.
Key demands
Conducting ward committee meetings regularly and ensuring participation of other civic agencies in the meetings, is one of the key demands in the charter.
Resolving civic grievances, tabling the action taken, a report on all the resolutions and decisions made during the meetings, also figure prominently in the charter.
The citizens have also asked the civic body to impart training sessions for BBMP officials and corporators on the roles and functions of ward committees and apprise them about the duties and tasks.
