A fire on Monday destroyed a warehouse near Vrushabhavathi River and reduced cars parked outside to ashes. There were no casualties.

Residents of Channasandra, RR Nagar, initially reported a raging inferno in a heap of garbage dumped along the river. But the fire had actually started in garbage dumped in the warehouse. It spread rapidly and soon spread to buildings nearby.

Firefighters battled for more than an hour to control the blaze. B M Shekhar, District Fire Officer, Bengaluru North, said the fire was lit by a cigarette butt thrown into the garbage heap.
