Failure to clear the wages of pourakarmikas has further exacerbated the garbage problem in Hoodi, where even the corporator has expressed helplessness about the mounting waste in the area.
While the residents slam the BBMP for not clearing the garbage bins regularly, the civic body points fingers at them for not segregating dry waste from the wet waste.
“Garbage lay strewn around in Kodigehalli, but officials are not acting on the complaint,” a resident of Kodigehalli in Hoodi, Sharath R, pointed
out. “The apartments have private vendors pick up the waste, but those in individual houses are concerned over the piling
garbage. We need daily visits by vans to clear the trash.”
Another resident Uma Maheshwari said refuse has been accumulating even on the main roads. “We’re trying our best to work with the BBMP to clear the garbage and create awareness on segregating the waste,” she said.
Shyaam, a resident of Alpha Garden Layout in Ayyappa Nagar, said the BBMP did not clear the gathering trash for a month. “We keep calling them up and they keep promising to clear the mess, but garbage collection vans never show up.”
Corporator A C Hari blamed the mess on the pourakarmikas, who are irregular at work, demanding payment hike. “There are 150 bins all over Hoodi and a few are damaged irretrievably. We will replace them soon,” he added.
A meeting was held Thursday between citizens and health inspectors of all the eight wards in Mahadevapura and problems concerning garbage have been addressed, Hari said, vowing to resolve any pending issue soon.
Health inspector Nagaraj V said the waste was not segregated, and was full of banned plastic bags.
He said the delay in clearing the bins would be addressed soon.
