A 38-year-old security guard stabbed his wife 22 times before trying to kill himself in southern Bengaluru's JP Nagar on Monday in what the police see as a murderous assault over her alleged extramarital affair.
Kumar, from Andhra Pradesh, picked a fight with his wife, Geetha, 33, when their nine-year-old son was away at a tuition class around 6 pm. The couple lived in a shed in the Susheela Residence apartment in Royal County area where Kumar worked as a security guard.
He accused her of having an affair and, in the heat of the moment, picked a kitchen knife and kept on stabbing her until she died. He then stabbed himself and came out of the house. Seeing him, local residents called the police. The jurisdictional Konanakunte police rushed to the spot and took him to the Victoria Hospital.
Police said Kumar and Geetha, who hailed from Challakere taluk, Chitradurga district, were married for 10 years ago. They are waiting for Kumar to recover to arrest him and take his statement.
