One of the three students who survived the blast at a laboratory in the Indian Institute of Science on December 5, does not recall the moment of the blast. Doctors say 24-year-old Athulya Uday Kumar may be suffering from partial amnesia.
According to Dr Naresh Shetty of the Ramaiah Memorial Hospital, Athulya was one of the students who suffered minor injuries compared to the other two students. “Athulya is feeling better today. When we asked him how the blast took place, he did not remember any of the details. He says that he recalls being among students and the next thing he remembers is someone carrying him out of the laboratory. He has no memory of the incident and may be suffering from partial amnesia,” added Dr Shetty.
Athulya, who had suffered a fracture, a multiple-cut lacerated wound on the left side of his face, an open wound on the shoulder, had foreign bodies removed from his neck. His jaw was fixed through a surgery. Athulya is awake and stable, and may be shifted out of the ICU.
Naresh Kumar (33) is on the ventilator and underwent surgery to remove foreign bodies from his chest. He suffered an open fracture on the right leg and got external fixation done. He too is stable and recuperating in the ICU.
