Avinash Kukreja, who had stashed cash, gold, watches and documents worth Rs 500 crore in his lockers, tendered his resignation to H S Srikanth, the secretary of Bowring Institute on Tuesday. Kukreja was supposed to present himself before a disciplinary committee on July 31, between 6.30 and 7 pm, answering a show-cause notice asking why he should not be expelled from the club for misusing its lockers.

Kukreja had stashed the articles in three lockers at the badminton court’s locker room which was broken open on July 19 by the club management while regularising them.

Kukreja walked in with his mother to the secretary’s chamber on Wednesday at around 3.15 pm and handed over this resignation. His resignation was accepted by Srikanth who casually told him his actions had last led to this, to which Kukreja replied that he did not want to discuss it. Soon after he left, the club management cancelled the membership of his spouse and two children. When the primary member resigns, this spouse’s and children’s membership automatically ceases, said Roop Goklaney, president of Bowring Institute. “As Kukreja had himself resigned, the question of him answering the show-cause notice does not arise. The managing committee has accepted his resignation,” said Srikanth.
