A government college lecturer and his friends have been booked for outraging the modesty of a woman and assaulting two people who questioned his behaviour.
At about 9.30 pm on July 11, Tarun (name changed), his sister and a friend were heading to their house in Madura Nagar in Varthur.
When Tarun’s vehicle was between Sorahunase and Valepur Main Road, Vijay Raj — a lecturer — and his friends followed his bike.
When Tarun slowed down to let them pass, Raj and his friends levelled with him and passed lewd comments at the woman. The accused also followed them for half a kilometer.
Tarun and his friend stopped their bikes and questioned Raj and others about their behaviour. Heated arguments and abuses led to a brawl, in which Raj thrashed Tarun and his friend, while also slapping the woman for trying to pull away her brother.
During the incident, the accused pulled at the woman’s clothes and outraged her modesty, the police said.
Raj and his associates then thrashed Tarun’s friend, who bravely fended off their attack, but suffered a fracture to his leg, besides other injuries. They received treatment at a hospital, following which Tarun went to the Whitefield police station to register a complaint.
The following morning, Raj and his mother visited Tarun’s house and fell at his mother’s feet to apologise for the incident. But Tarun decided to pursue legal action.
The Whitefield police booked Raj and his companions under IPC sections pertaining to outraging the modesty of a woman, voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means, wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation and a few related sections.
“We are on the lookout for Vijay Raj and the others, who have absconded and have switched off their phones,” a police officer said.
