BASE to be modelled on London School of Economics

The Dr BR Ambedkar School of Economics (BASE), Bengaluru, will be upgraded to the level of the London School of Economics, said G T Deve Gowda, higher education minister. The minister had chaired a meeting with the board officials of BASE, which includes Montek Singh Ahluwalia, deputy chairman of the planning commission, among others.

“We have taken the initiative to develop the institution to be on par with international standards. Be it in the syllabus or infrastructure, we will ensure this school gets international fame,” the minister told mediapersons here on Tuesday. "With regard to the syllabus, a committee of experts from all over the world was constituted. The social welfare department will sanction
Rs 50 lakh to develop the infrastructure and to build a hostel for the students,” Gowda said. The hostel work will be completed by 2020.

The minister also said the committee of experts would ensure a good rapport with the faculty of the London School of Economics, where they would be roped in as the visiting faculty to BASE in the coming days.

Faculty to donate pay for flood-hit Kodagu, Kerala

The teaching and non-teaching staff in various colleges, universities and polytechnics across the state will donate their one-day salary towards the welfare of those affected by the floods in Madikeri district.

“Apart from this, the vice-chancellors of various universities are donating their one-month salary, and I will donate two months of my pay for the welfare of the flood-affected people in Madikeri and Kerala, respectively. This will total to more than Rs 12 crore,” he said.
