A 26-year-old man died after falling off a makeshift lift from the fifth floor of a construction site on Saturday morning.
The deceased, Buddha Deb Burman of West Bengal, had come to Bengaluru with his brothers six months ago and worked at the building, the police said.
Around 8.30 am, Burman was standing in the lift box meant to shift building material from the ground to the top floors. The lift was on the fifth floor and Burman was loading material from the lift to the floor the lift box suddenly collapsed, bringing Burman down with it. The injured Burman was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries later. The Whitefield police have taken up a negligence case against the building owner who is yet to be traced, and the contractor.
