A 30-year-old man was found hanging from the ceiling fan of a hotel room in Southeast Bengaluru’s HSR Layout on Thursday.

Police believe Yogesh, a resident of Rupena Agrahara, committed suicide as he had lost money in the IPL betting. Yogesh would place high bets on IPL matches. He won a few bets initially but started losing thereafter.

Police said Yogesh not only lost all the cash that he had but also started pawning household articles for betting. He did not even spare his mother’s gold ornaments. He was deep in debt and saw no way to repay his lenders. Finally, on Thursday afternoon, he rented a room in a hotel in HSR Layout and hanged himself, police said. A case of unnatural death has been lodged at the Madiwala police station.
