The 8th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Wednesday refused to grant bail to Kannada actor 'Duniya' Vijay, who was arrested on September 23 for abducting and assaulting celebrity gym trainer Maruthi Gowda.
The High Grounds police had summoned the controversial actor on the night of September 22, hours after the alleged incident. He turned up along with the victim. The next day, a magistrate remanded Vijay in judicial custody. The actor filed the bail application on Monday. The court heard both the sides and had reserved its judgement for Wednesday.
The court concurred with the public prosecutor that Gowda, the victim, was still in the hospital and was unable to give a statement to the police. Unless Gowda gives a statement to the police, the actor should not be released on bail as may threaten or influence the witnesses, the court was told.
Meanwhile, the High Grounds police released Gowda's uncle and Vijay's former fitness trainer, H Krishnamurthy alias Kitty, on bail. Kitty was arrested on a counter-complaint filed by the actor that he headbutted him at the police station and damaged his Range Rover.
