Members of United Bengaluru—a non-government organisation working towards the welfare of the city— visited the Karnataka Compost Development Corporation’s (KCDC) waste processing plant in HSR Layout on Saturday.

Residents living near the plant have been complaining about the stench emanating from the plant for about five years now and were demanding that the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and KCDC shut down the plant.

However, the BBMP and KCDC have been denying as there is no other place to process the waste accumulated in this area. After multiple requests, the palike officials have ordered to collect only dry waste from other localities and collect wet waste only from the Bommanahalli zone for processing in this plant.

MP from BJP, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, visited the plant on Saturday and assured the nearby residents that he would shut down the waste processing plant.
