The Karnataka State Rajinikanth Fans Association has filed a complaint with the city police, saying Superstar Rajinikanth’s latest movie 2.0 has been leaked on social media.
The link for the movie was widely circulated on WhatsApp and Facebook soon after the release.
Rajni Santosh Kumar, association president, in his complaint, stated that soon after the release of the movie several people, including a senior IPS officer, received the link, which was forwarded to their WhatsApp and Facebook accounts.
Amounts to piracy
This amounts to piracy and can be legally dealt with under sections of the Copyrights Act, he stated in his complaint.
The movie was recorded using a phone inside the theatre and was being shared on Facebook live, a senior police officer said.
The officer also said that the piracy act would incur huge losses to the producer of the movie.
A group of fans led by Kumar met City Police Commissioner Suneel Kumar on Monday and requested him to take up the complaint and conduct a detailed probe.
After the complaint was filed, the city police responded positively and have informed the social media platforms concerned to block all the links of the movie, a police source said.
Adgp tweets
“One of my contacts forwarded this to me and I had to give him an ear-full before explaining and advising how his actions could be criminally liable under sections of the Copyright Act,” said Bhaskar Rao, (ADGP KSR), who tweeted with an attachment of the link. He appealed to the police authorities to take legal action.
