A 23-year-old bike rider was killed on the spot and the pillion rider sustained injuries after a speeding lorry knocked down their bike on Thursday early morning in Whitefield.
The deceased, Prakash Chandra Rao, was a resident of Kadugodi and hailed from Bhubaneswar in Odisha. His friend, Sai Venkatesh, riding pillion, sustained grievous injuries and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Both worked for a private company, the police said.
According to the police, while they were returning home after work at around 1 am, the speeding lorry rammed into their bike from the rear on Kadugodi main road. They were tossed in the air and crashed on to the road. Prakash died on spot and the passerby immediately rushed Venkatesh to the nearby hospital, the police said.
The police said the lorry driver abandoned the vehicle and fled from the scene fearing public wrath.
The Whitefield traffic police have registered a case and seized the vehicles. They are on the lookout for the absconding driver.
