The Rotary Club has launched a dedicated transgender club in the city to ensure the greater participation of sexual minorities in social activities.
The club will serve as the satellite club of Rotary Bangalore Central District 3190 and will be headed by social activist Akkai Padmashali.
One of its kind, the Rotary Transgender Club will have 10 transgenders who will work for the welfare of sexual minorities.
Padmashali took over as the president of the club at a ceremony on Wednesday along with nine other transgenders.
'A great step forward'
“The chapter is a great step forward in supporting the transgender community and sexual minorities. The members aim to support these oppressed groups and bring about a change in their lives,” Padmashali said, according to a news release.
