The police have finally got the better of a 21-year-old history-sheeter, who not only decapitated a youth and dumped his severed head in Doddaballapur, but also filed an attempted murder case against his victim’s friends to mislead the officers. The motive for the gruesome crime was a fight over a motorbike.

Pawan had vowed revenge after Upendra, of Karenahalli, and his friend, Ashok, snatched his two-wheeler when he was returning home. Ashok got onto the motorcycle, while Upendra grabbed the pillion. They abused him and sped away.

Pawan laid a trap for Ashok. On May 29, he invited Upendra for talks through his associates. Once Upendra arrived, Pawan attacked him and beheaded him with a machete. He then buried the torso and the machete in a dried-up lakebed. He put the severed head in a plastic bag and threw it behind a house in Chikkapete, Doddaballapur. He then headed to the police station and filed a complaint that Ashok and his associates had attacked him.

The police booked Ashok for attempted murder and arrested him and his four friends.

Son missing

Meanwhile, Upendra’s father went to the police, saying his son has been missing. A few days later, the police found the severed head and summoned Upendra’s father. He positively identified the head.

The police then picked up the associates of both Upendra and Pawan. They learnt that Pawan had a fight with Ashok and Upendra over a motorbike. When interrogated, Pawan narrated the whole story, said Bhimashankar Guled, Superintendent of Police, Bengaluru Rural.

The police have recovered the torso and the machete, he added.
