A 19-year-old student was arrested for sending obscene messages to his classmates and friends through WhatsApp.
The accused has been identified as Bhargav, a native of Hindupur in Andhra Pradesh. He was doing his first year BA in St Joseph’s College, Lalbagh Road.
The Ashok Nagar police said Bhargav had failed in his first year exams last year. During his stay in Bengaluru, he used to send obscene messages, photographs and videos to his classmates, including girls. Everybody was aware about it, but nobody came forward to complain to the principal.
After he failed in the exams, Bhargav went back to his native and bought another SIM card by submitting his father's documents. He continued to send obscene messages to his classmates and friends. He even made video calls in the nude to some of the girls.
When they started receiving obscene messages from an unknown number, they complained to the principal, who filed a complaint on Friday.
During the investigation, the police came across the messages that Bhargav used to send when he was in college. They traced the number and realised it was registered in the name of Bhargav's father (name withheld), who is a contractor.
The police went to Hindupur and arrested Bhargav on Saturday. He was later released on bail.
