The Transport Authority has banned advertisements on all transport vehicles, including auto rickshaws, buses, taxis and goods carriers.
The move comes a month after the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) in Bengaluru formed a sub-committee to look into the issue of advertisements distracting commuters and posing a threat to road safety. As per new rule, those who want to display ads must obtain permission from the respective RTA. Action will be taken against those who display ads without permission, a release from the Transport Commissioner's office said.
Officials had previously said that some of the advertisements on vehicles, especially auto rickshaws, were distracting. The committee will also specify the space given for ads on vehicles.
