After nearly two years, the Bangalore University and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) have vice-chancellors. Governor and chancellor of the universities Vajubhai Vala confirmed the appointments through a notification on Tuesday. Both the varsities were functioning with in-charge V-Cs for a while now.
S Sachidanand at RGUHS
Dr S Sachidanand has been appointed as the V-C of RGUHS. He is the director of the medical education department and the director of the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI). Dr M K Ramesh, registrar, evaluation, RGUHS was appointed as the interim director from July 2017. This was after the tenure of Dr K S Ravindranath came to an end.
K R Venugopal at BU
Prof K R Venugopal has now been appointed as the V-C of the Bangalore University. He was the principal of the University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE).
The post of V-C at BU was vacant since February 2017 when the term of Dr B Thimmegowda came to an end. Since then, five in-charge vice-chancellors have held the post.
According to the notification, the term for the post will be for a period of three years or until he attains 65, or whichever is earlier.
As many as 22 PhDs have been awarded to Venugopal, who has penned and edited several books. He is an alumnus of the IISc.
Venugopal said: “The UVCE should grow as an institute of excellence and we will discuss it with the officials of the Bengaluru Central University at a meeting called by the higher education department.”
Prof Eshwar Bhat has been appointed as the new V-C of the Karnataka State Law University.
