Amid the fear of Kyasanur Forest Disease in Shivamogga, the carcasses of two monkeys, in a decomposed state, was found at Ujire and Kannaje in Belthangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada district on Friday.
Speaking to DH, Taluk Health Officer Dr Kalamadhu said that as the carcasses were found in a decomposed state, samples could not be collected from it to be sent for testing for the KFD.
A team of veterinary doctors and others have visited the spot. It looks like the monkeys might have died four days ago. As the carcasses were in a decomposed state, post mortem could not be conducted on it and were cremated.
Fumigation was taken up in the areas where the carcasses were found.
He said that the public need not panic. All the precautionary measures have been initiated in the taluk.
ASHA workers are creating awareness on the KFD in the rural areas.
He appealed to the public to inform the forest or health or animal husbandry departments if they come across carcass of monkey in the forest.
DHO Dr Ramakrishna Rao said the last case of the KFD was reported in Dakshina Kannada district in 2014-15 with the death of an individual at Beluvai.
