The grand, colourful illumination of streets, buildings and circles of the heritage city enrich the beauty during Dasara. The panoramic dazzling lights are a feast to the eyes of tourists.
Illumination is a major tourist attraction in Mysuru during Dasara. This year, Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (Cesc) has decided to illuminate a stretch of approximately 50 km of the roads, including prominent roads and 51 circles, by spending approximately Rs 3 crore.
Cesc has completed the works for illuminating the city. This time, Cesc has planned an innovative way to attract tourists by replicating insignia of Sir M Visvesvaraya, Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, India Gate, Parliament, and Vidhana Soudha at various places across the city, on all 10 days of Dasara.
According to sources, insignia of Visvesvaraya will be displayed on the premises of Institute of Engineers; Parliament near Railway Station; Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, Ambari, and Stone Chariot of Hampi near Doddakere Grounds; Mysuru Palace at Ramaswamy Circle; and Vidhana Soudha near LIC Office.
Cesc has specially decorated the Krishnaraja Boulevard and Devaraj Urs Road. The 900-metre stretch of Devaraj Urs Road will get red, green and blue lights, which reflect multicolours, while the Bengaluru-Nilgiri Road will get 80 poles with LED stripes, which reflect multicolours.
Stressing on environment and bird species, Cesc has decided to not use 'Metal Halide' lights to focus on trees this Dasara. As Metal Halide lights affect various birds nesting on trees, Cesc has decided not to use them for trees. This time, Cesc has also asked the illumination workers not to nail the trees to fix the decorations.
This time, there is no scarcity of power during Dasara. Cesc has made alternative arrangements of power, from renewable energy sources like solar and wind power. The Cesc has completely banned the use of incandescent lights from 2013. Since then, Cesc is using LEDs to save power.
Speaking to DH, H S Swamy, Executive Engineer, NR Mohalla Division, Mysuru, said, "Cesc has decided to celebrate Dasara in an innovative and meaningful way to attract tourists. We have taken utmost care to ensure that there will be no power interruption during Dasara. We have sufficient power.”
